Soil Fertility Index Assessment in Teak-Based Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) Cropping Patterns
Abstract
The challenges faced in achieving food security vary widely, including climate change, prolonged conflict, economic turbulence, and a lack of nutritious food. Sacha inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.) is a highly nutritious plant that goes to wasted unutilized. Inca nut is usually cultivated with poles or trellises, some with live stakes. Sacha inchi cultivation in Banyurip, Sragen is integrated with teak (Tectona grandis L.f.). This research was conducted to assess and compare the soil fertility index (SFI) in teak-based sacha inchi cropping patterns. The sampling location was in four types of cropping patterns: teak- sacha inchi, mixed agroforestry, sacha inchi monoculture, and teak monoculture. Results showed that the SFI was around 0.44 to 0.55, which is considered moderate. The highest SFI was found in teak monoculture and the lowest in sacha inchi monoculture. Data showed that the cropping pattern greatly influences SFI in teak-based sacha inchi cropping pattern. The pH and potassium availability were found to be the limiting factors for SFI.
